Ko tā mātou mahi | About the opportunity
Joining our Maritime Operations Centre (MOC), you’ll contribute to the delivery of Safety of Life at Sea communications across one of the largest maritime regions in the world, spanning from the Equator to the South Pole, and from the mid Tasman Sea to more than halfway to Chile.
This is an entry-level position suited to someone with strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and the ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations. The role operates within a 24/7 environment and requires a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Ko tō mahi | What you’ll be doing
You will receive comprehensive training to operate within New Zealand’s Maritime Operations Centre, supporting critical communication services. Working alongside and supported by experienced colleagues, you will grow your technical capability and operational confidence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and relaying emergency and safety communications via VHF and HF radio between vessels and search and rescue agencies
- Monitoring system performance and escalating faults as required
- Accurately recording incidents and communications
- Supporting the operational team in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Completing internal MOC Operator training
