About the role
As the General Manager - Technology and Data, you will be the chief architect of Australia's leading Retail Media ecosystem. Your role is to lead the technical vision and delivery of an integrated platform that serves as the commercial backbone for growth, with a primary goal of scaling the business to a significant increase in revenue over the next 3-5 years.
The primary mission is to build a scalable, "Commercial-First" infrastructure that unifies Cartology's vast inventory—from in-store digital screens to sophisticated eCommerce search—enabling the company to be the strategic partner of choice for global brands. You will report to the Chief Digital Officer with a dotted line to the Managing Director Cartology.
Responsibilities will include:
-
The Commercial Backbone: Own the "Quote-to-Cash" journey. You’ll architect a unified Inventory and Order Management System that integrates CRM, billing, and CMS into a seamless value chain.
-
AdTech Innovation: Oversee a full-stack ad tech delivery model, spanning audience segments, targeting logic, and multi-format ad serving across Online, Video, and In-store Radio.
-
AI-Led Growth: Deploy Agentic AI and machine learning to automate operations, optimise creative delivery, and provide the predictive insights that fuel client ROI.
-
Data Sovereignty & Democratisation: Lead a massive data and analytics strategy, commercialising data products while maintaining world-class security and "secure-by-design" principles.
-
Ecosystem Integration: Partner across the Woolworths Group to embed Cartology into the customer journey, deciding when to build bespoke tech and when to leverage Group-wide standards.
-
People & Culture Leadership: Attract, retain, and scale high-performing engineering and product technology teams, managing a team size of approximately ~80 FTE + ~20-40 Contractors.
You will bring?
-
Platform Leadership: 10+ years in senior tech roles, specifically building or scaling complex marketplaces or high-volume advertising platforms.
-
Technical Proficiency: Expertise in languages like Python, Scala, and SQL is required.
-
Commercial Backbone: Deep experience with "Quote-to-Cash" workflows, ERP integrations, and complex inventory modelling.
-
Omnichannel Expertise: Proven track record of managing both digital assets and physical IoT/out-of-home assets in a single ecosystem.
-
AI Literacy: Practical experience implementing Machine Learning or AI to solve real-world business problems like forecasting or creative optimisation.
-
Stakeholder Navigation: Exceptional ability to partner with Sales, Product, and Finance leaders to translate technical roadmaps into commercial outcomes.
-
Execution & Leadership: Must have proven experience in driving execution and managing budgets, as well as the ability to attract and retain high-performing teams.
