Job Description

Join Nine's Broadcast Operations as a Studio Automation Specialist and play an instrumental role within our team, supporting our country-wide network of studio automated control rooms.

In this position, you will work directly on a growing array of live and pre-recorded programs across multiple platforms, including flagship brands like 9News, A Current Affair, Today, Wide World of Sport, and Stan Sport.

Alongside a comprehensive understanding of TV production and broadcast technologies, this role demands excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with key stakeholders across our editorial, technology, and operations teams.

At the heart of this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining broadcast continuity and ensuring Nine's productions consistently meet the highest standards that our audiences expect.

  • Technically and operationally support Nine’s Mosart-driven studio automation control rooms and their productions across the country
  • Manage broadcast-related incidents, perform high-pressure technical problem solving and enact disaster recovery procedures to ensure broadcast continuity
  • Act as a key technical partner for our editorial and creative teams, translating ambitious concepts into on-air reality by designing results-driven workflows and collaborating with all necessary internal and external stakeholders
  • Spearhead critical broadcast projects, while prioritising system integrity and uninterrupted live programming
  • Demonstrate a proactive interest in emerging broadcast technologies and industry trends, assessing their potential impact, identifying opportunities, and providing recommendations
  • Act as a role model and mentor for automation operators, providing training, fostering a positive and collaborative culture, and driving the creation of a shared knowledge base through clear documentation.
  • This dynamic role requires flexibility, including shift work, on-call availability, occasional travel for projects and the ability to operate on productions as required

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Expertise in live television production, with comprehensive knowledge of production roles, broadcast systems, and integrated workflows across the newsroom, control room, and studio floor
  • Strong aptitude for learning the operational and technical functions of various broadcast devices such as vision switchers, audio mixers, graphics playout, lighting and robotic camera systems
  • Ability to thrive and stay calm under pressure, working independently or as part of a team
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, alongside exceptional communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience in Viz Mosart show design, show building and/or template editing
  • Experience with newsroom and editorial production workflows and systems such as ENPS, Viz Pilot or Viz Pilot Edge
  • Experience with creative, productivity & collaboration tools such as Adobe Suite, Slack, Google Suite and Atlassian
  • A genuine interest in and familiarity with Nine’s flagship television productions, brands, and on-air talent
