Job Description

The role will be office-based in Perth but you will also be expected to attend training sessions, press conferences and matches. You will need to have a flexible approach to working, as the role involves working when sports news happens, which often means weekends. If you live and breathe sports - this is for you. It’s expected you’re a team player - willing to work collaboratively with the News Director, Sports Editor, Chief of Staff and others within the newsroom to produce the best sports coverage possible.

Day to day you will:

  • Identify and react to breaking news, issues, and trends across all sporting codes.
  • Monitor social media and online networks to capture and report on trending stories.
  • Produce innovative, engaging content tailored for television and digital platforms.
  • Cultivate and maintain a robust network of influential sports industry contacts.
  • Collaborate with the News Director and Chief of Staff to ensure premium coverage.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, consistently delivering quality under tight deadlines.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to cover major matches and breaking news as it happens.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Journalism or a related communications field.
  • Prior experience in television, radio, or modern news media environments.
  • Exceptional broadcast-writing skills with a focus on clear, impactful storytelling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build professional relationships.
  • A sound understanding of Australian media law and ethical broadcasting standards.
  • Familiarity with ENPS, Velocity, or similar broadcast television software.
  • A tenacious, team-oriented mindset with a genuine passion for the sporting landscape.
