Job Description

Based in our Perth office, this 12-month max-term Sport Reporter contract role (3 days a week) will see you out in the field at training sessions, press conferences, and live matches. A flexible, can-do attitude is a must, sports news doesn’t stick to a 9-5, and neither does this role. Weekend work is expected. If you live and breathe sport and thrive in a team environment, this is your dream gig. You’ll work closely with the News Director, Sports Editor, and wider newsroom to deliver top-tier sports coverage.

Day to day you will:

  • Proactively identify and pitch engaging stories across local, national, and international sport.
  • Stay across breaking news, trends, and social media to deliver timely and relevant content.
  • Generate creative storytelling ideas for both television and digital platforms.
  • Work efficiently under pressure to meet tight daily deadlines.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of sports industry contacts

Qualifications

What we would like to see:

  • Tertiary qualification in Journalism with solid knowledge of news and current affairs.
  • Experience in TV, radio, or digital news, with strong broadcast writing and communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of media law and newsroom systems (ENPS, Velocity or similar).
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude.

At Nine, we’re committed to delivering the highest quality content — and it’s our talented people who make that possible. If you’re ready to take the leap and be part of something great, we’d love to hear from you.
