Job Description
Are you passionate about the consumer experience and eager to uncover stories that impact everyday Australians? We are looking for an experienced and self-driven National Consumer Writer to join our dynamic business team. In this role, you will explore a wide range of issues, from consumer rights and scams to the everyday dealings Australians have with financial institutions, supermarkets, and other major industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate stories covering various aspects of the Australian consumer experience, including consumer rights, infringements, and the challenges consumers face in the modern economy.
- Dive into topics like scams, billing, and pricing issues across sectors like banking, insurance, and retail.
- Stay informed about the operations of companies and regulators, including ACCC, ASIC, and state consumer affairs departments.
- Dig into the issues to write engaging articles that inform and empower consumers
- Collaborate closely with the business team to craft content that resonates with an audience concerned about their rights and experiences.
- Analyse industry trends and use audience analytics to drive subscription traffic.
Qualifications
What we would like to see:
- Proven experience as a reporter or writer ideally in a major news organisation
- Working knowledge or interest in the issues affecting Australian Consumers
- Strong understanding of business operations, the modern economy, and consumer affairs
- Strong digital publishing skills
- Proven ability to generate news stories and dig into topics to produce long-form articles and deep-dives.
- Experience in investigations and reporting on business is highly desirable
- Comfortable liaising with companies, regulators, and other stakeholders
- Familiarity with publishing analytics tools and an understanding of how to drive audience engagement
- A self-starter with a proactive approach to story generation
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, including an ability to meet strict deadlines.
