The Opportunity

As the Head of Digital Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of engineering through the practical and responsible adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle. Joining an established engineering leadership team, you will bring a distinct perspective and proven experience leveraging AI to transform engineering outcomes, helping redefine how digital products and platforms are designed, built, tested and operated to deliver exceptional business and customer outcomes. Leading multiple engineering teams, you will combine strong delivery discipline with innovation, driving engineering excellence, modern ways of working and measurable improvements in productivity, quality, speed and reliability. You will partner closely with senior leaders across technology and the business to influence strategy, uplift engineering capability and accelerate value delivery through AI-enabled engineering practices. About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

• Proven experience leading large-scale digital engineering teams within complex enterprise or highly regulated environments.
• Demonstrated success driving engineering transformation and delivering measurable improvements in productivity, quality, delivery performance and customer outcomes.
• Strong experience embedding AI-enabled practices, automation and emerging technologies into software engineering and delivery teams.
• A track record of translating technology strategy into tangible business outcomes and sustainable value.
• The ability to challenge traditional thinking and influence meaningful change across technology organisations.
• Deep understanding of modern software engineering practices, including DevSecOps, cloud technologies, platform engineering, CI/CD and operational excellence.
• Exceptional leadership capability, with experience building, mentoring and developing high-performing engineering leaders and teams.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance innovation, risk, quality, cost and long-term platform sustainability.
• Proven ability to lead multiple delivery teams while maintaining strong execution discipline and delivery accountability.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility at executive, business and technical levels.
• Experience establishing and scaling AI-enabled ways of working with a focus on responsible adoption, governance and measurable outcomes.
• Strong understanding of cyber security, privacy, risk management, resilience and compliance considerations.
• Experience evaluating, selecting and managing technology vendors, delivery partners and strategic supplier relationships.
• The ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, create clarity for teams and make sound decisions in complex environments.
• A naturally curious, innovative and future-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and emerging technologies.
• Strong enterprise thinking, with the ability to balance immediate delivery priorities with broader organisational objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline. Extensive experience in senior digital engineering, software engineering or technology leadership roles. Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale engineering transformation initiatives. Proven experience implementing AI-enabled engineering practices, tools and operating models. Strong knowledge of modern software engineering methodologies, cloud platforms, DevSecOps, CI/CD and platform engineering practices. Experience leading agile and product-led delivery functions within large and complex organisations. Proven track record of building high-performing engineering teams and developing future leaders. Experience managing strategic technology vendors, delivery partners and commercial technology relationships. Relevant certifications in cloud technologies, agile delivery, technology leadership, AI or digital transformation will be highly regarded. Experience within financial services, insurance or other highly regulated industries will be highly regarded.
