Job Description

The Australian Financial Review is looking for a Graphic Designer who can deliver compelling visual elements for stories. You will design and produce engaging infographics and artwork for both digital and print platforms, contributing to Australia's premier business and politics publication. This role offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic editorial team and contribute to agenda-setting journalism. We are open to applications from recent graduates or those new to the industry who can demonstrate strong potential and the right attitude. 

Day to day you will:

  • Translate complex financial data, business concepts, and statistics into engaging graphics, including charts, tables, maps, infographics, and timelines.
  • Produce creative artwork to illustrate stories, including vector and photo illustrations.
  • Present data in a way that is engaging, easily absorbed, and accurately portrayed.
  • Execute a range of projects simultaneously across digital and print mediums, including website, social media, podcasts, newsletters, and the daily newspaper edition.
  • Work effectively with the wider editorial team to ensure graphics are delivered on time and are relevant and effective to the target audience.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Graphic design qualifications or equivalent professional design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing a variety of mediums.
  • Proficiency in Mac OS and expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Intermediate skills in Excel/Google Sheets and Acrobat Pro for data editing.
  • Production experience across both print and digital formats.
  • Excellent multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with illustration, animation, web design, and online data visualisation tools is desirable.
