Job Description

This team is a dynamic and innovative group of engineers responsible for
building and maintaining the software that empowers our Publishing Editorial newsrooms to create
and deliver high-quality content to our audience. We are passionate about streamlining workflows,
improving efficiency, and providing cutting-edge tools that enable our journalists and editors to tell
compelling stories.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and supporting the systems that facilitate content planning, scheduling, and collaboration across our newsrooms.
  • Building and maintaining the tools that allow our editors to curate engaging and dynamic homepage experiences for our audience.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and
    deliverables.
  • Oversee the technical design, development, and delivery of high-quality software solutions that
    meet business requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and practices, promoting efficiency
    and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the engineering team's strategic roadmap.
  • Align the team's work with broader organisational goals and priorities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and
    continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to team members,
    supporting their professional development and growth.

 

Qualifications

 

Essential qualifications, experience & skills

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent people and stakeholder management skills
  • 2+ years in a team or technical leadership role managing people
  • 4+ years experience in web or software development
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of software development lifecycle and processes
  • Proven skills in creating a high-performance team environment
  • Managing yourself and your team in a fast-changing environment with competing priorities
  • A strong understanding of agile development best practices, including Scrum and Lean
  • methodologies

Desirable qualifications, experience & skills

  • Hands-on skills working on technologies like GoLang, ReactJS, Kubernetes, Docker etc
  • Media and publishing experience
