Our events portfolio consists of 20+ annual events across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide and include sporting events (cricket, golf, soccer, basketball, hiking), culture & music events (trivia, DJ competition), thought-leadership seminars, as well as unique fundraisers and gala experiences such as the Adland Bail Out and Big Dream.

Objective:

To lead UnLtd’s events function end-to-end, delivering exceptional events that inspire the industry, deepen connection to UnLtd and our mission, and galvanise the community to create meaningful change for young people facing disadvantage.

The Director of Events owns the experience, strategy, planning and commercial performance of the events portfolio, ensuring events deliver both outstanding experiences and strong fundraising outcomes.

Overview:

The Director of Events has full custodianship of UnLtd’s events portfolio.

This role requires a mature and experienced events leader with operational excellence, strong commercial acumen, and a proven ability to galvanise and inspire others while delivering exceptional event experiences. The Director of Events will:

• Lead the annual events calendar, ensuring strong positioning, audience alignment and commercial viability.
• Deliver all UnLtd events to the highest professional standard, managing budgets, suppliers and logistics end-to-end.
• Drive commercial outcomes including fundraising, auction and raffle items, participation growth and sponsorship opportunities.
• Integrate charity partners and storytelling to create meaningful emotional connection to our cause.
• Champion operational excellence and continuous improvement across every event.
• Foster a proactive, solutions-oriented culture within the events team.
• Represent UnLtd externally with professionalism and energy, proactively building and nurturing strategic relationships across agencies, publishers, corporates and industry partners.

 

The role requires a strategic thinker with best-in-class event leadership, strong commercial fluency and the ability to inspire both stakeholders and the next generation of industry leaders.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Strategic Leadership & Ownership

  • Own the events function end-to-end — strategy, planning, delivery and outcomes.
  • Lead the annual events calendar ensuring alignment with UnLtd priorities and industry moments.
  • Design events that maximise engagement, emotional connection and revenue generation.
  • Provide regular event performance reporting and insights to ELT and Board.

Operational excellence & event readiness

  • Ensure every event is delivered seamlessly and to the highest standard.
  • Maintain strong forward planning across the events calendar.
  • Prepare clear event briefs for staff and volunteers to ensure alignment and confidence.
  • Maintain transparent communication across the organisation regarding event planning and logistics.
  • Ensure clear documentation of event processes, budgets and ownership.

Commercial & Contract Governance

  • Hold full commercial accountability for the events portfolio.
  • Manage event budgets with strong cost discipline.
  • Drive fundraising outcomes through auctions, raffles and participation growth.
  • Identify cost efficiencies across suppliers, venues and production.
  • Deliver accurate financial reconciliation and reporting with the CEO and Head of Finance.

Audience & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with agencies, publishers, corporates and industry partners.
  • Grow participation and engagement across the events portfolio.
  • Partner with industry bodies to align UnLtd events with broader industry initiatives.
  • Make sure our events showcase our charity partners respectfully, and our attendees connect with the cause
  • Maintain strategic stakeholder engagement across key events.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Line manage the Events Coordinator and oversee volunteer engagement.
  • Set clear expectations, KPIs and development goals.
  • Foster a proactive, accountable and solutions-oriented team culture.
  • Ensure clear ownership and accountability across event delivery.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Analyse event performance and benchmark against industry best practice.
  • Continuously evolve event formats and experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate guest experience or improve financial outcomes.
  • Implement structured feedback loops to improve future events.

Success Measures – Head of Events

  • Audience & Engagement: Growth in engagement, participation, audience reach and most importantly quantifiable improvements on the UnLtd event experience.
  • Stakeholder Confidence: Proactive communication and trust with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Impact & Storytelling: Charity partners or storytelling integrated to create an emotional & memorable experience.
  • Commercial Growth: Year-on-year growth through sponsorship, auction, raffle, and new fundraising streams whilst managing costs.
  • Event Delivery: 100% of events delivered on time, within budget, with post-event P&L reconciliation completed with Head of Finance.
