Job Description

The Data Product Manager role functions at the cross-section of Nine’s Streaming services and data products. 9Now is Australia’s leading broadcast video on demand platform with almost half of all BVOD minutes watched on one of our apps.

Data plays a critical role in the streaming value chain - in particular through the collection of audience metrics which inform broadcast ratings and underpin commercialisation efforts on 9Now.

You will manage the end-to-end product lifecycle for streaming data products- from collection through to analytics and reporting. The scope of this data spans across both Broadcast and Streaming (e.g. via the 9Now apps). You’ll work with a range of stakeholders across Commercial Sales, 9Now, Data Product and Engineering, and Research to own initiatives from requirements identification to value delivery.

You will also have the opportunity to connect audience measurement information, such as content engagement and audience demographics with further data sets such as platform engagement and commercial performance to enable and drive unique insight that informs short- and long-term decisions around content, product development, and commercialisation.

As the Data Product Manager you will:

  • Analyse and assess stakeholder requirements from Commercial, Product, Programming / Content and other functions to shape desired business outcomes and to define data products that consider the user experience, technical complexity, and ongoing cost of ownership

  • Drive requirements discovery and definition for streaming data initiatives, with a particular focus on audience and content performance measurement activities

  • Provide clear and concise documentation for requirements and translate them into user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and visualisation wireframes

  • Support the delivery process (i.e. across sprints) for a dedicated data engineering squad, including inputting into sprint planning meetings, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives

  • Collaborate with the Data Engineering team in determining technical feasibility, producing solution designs and ultimately, a working data product

  • Drive engagement with external stakeholders (e.g. ratings agencies) to clarify requirements, confirm solution approach and to inform priorities

  • Use data to identify actionable insights and demonstrate your problem solving abilities by driving and resolving issues that require cross-team investigation

  • Use your SQL skills and experience with data visualisation to investigate, prioritise and enable communications with key stakeholders

Qualifications

You have a passion for consumer products and technology and are excited by the challenge of making a positive impact on how millions of Australians consume entertainment every day.

Experience:

  • Strong SQL experience (with focus on data query language)

  • Experience with business analysis in a technical product / platform space - preferably within the context of data and analytics

  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Google Looker / Looker Studio)

Skills:

  • A solid understanding of Agile delivery practices

  • A methodical approach to problem solving

  • The technical chops required to investigate issues, conduct analysis and collaborate on technical solutions

  • The ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues

Qualifications:

  • A qualification in technology or IT, or equivalent experience in an Agile environment.
