Job Description

Nine News is looking for a dynamic and strategic Chief of Staff to run our newsgathering operation. You'll be a key leader, responsible for identifying and assigning the most important stories, managing reporter and camera crews, and leading our team's rapid response to breaking news. Work directly with our Executive Producer and News Director to drive the future of Nine News.

Role Responsibilities: 

Day to day you will:

  • Produce daily story lists and collaborate with the Executive Producer and News Director to curate local news content.
  • Direct and manage all reporters, camera crews, and live links in the field on a daily basis.
  • Lead daily news meetings for early morning, late morning, and next-day planning sessions.
  • Manage daily news coverage, guide story selection, and ensure content meets all editorial standards.
  • Assist reporters in finding stories, anticipate future news events for forward planning, and coach staff on systems and processes.
  • Maintain a positive and professional communication style while actively supporting a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience as a Journalist/Reporter.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Chief of Staff position or similar.
  • Planning and organising of tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise accordingly.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
