Job Description

The Data Platform team designs, builds, and maintains the tooling and cloud infrastructure for our data teams, enabling data-informed decision making, highly engaging consumer experiences and effective commercial products.

Our team’s focus is on creating scalable, reusable apps that support core data engineering activities, including workflow orchestration, data transformation, and integrations. We also develop automations and guardrails to enhance data engineering productivity, security, long-term maintainability, ensure quality and improve our operational resilience.

Qualifications

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist in building, enhancing, and maintaining data platform tools and improving the use of cloud infrastructure.
  • Contribute to solution designs, architectures, and the development of standards and practices.
  • Fous on observability, monitoring and alerting across the platform and tools to ensure system health, minimise issues and proactively identify and resolve issues when they do happen.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including data engineers, product managers, data scientists, analysts, and business users to understand and support their data platform needs
  • Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to stakeholders with different levels of technical understanding.
  • Demonstrate good engineering practices and behaviours
  • Enthusiastic, be able to contribute and learn from wider engineering talent in the team
  • Stay updated with emerging data engineering technologies and trends, and evaluate their potential benefits to Nine’s data platform.
  • Essential qualifications, experience & skills
  • Proficieny in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Java)
  • Understanding of good software quality principles, including DRY, unit testing, code reviews, and continuous integration practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot data and technology issues.
  • Comfortable with Git for version control, including tasks like branching, merging and conflict resolution.

Desirable qualifications, experience & skills

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, data science, information technology or a related field.
  • Experience with a data processing framework like Apache Spark (including PySpark).
  • Knowledge of some of the key data tools or frameworks used at Nine, such as DBT, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, GCP, BigQuery.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) for creating, managing and deploying applications.
  • Experience with SQL and database technologies
  • Understanding of data warehouse modelling approaches to meet product and business requirements.
  • Experience working with Cloud Platforms, including services for data storage, processing, and analytics.
  • Experience with cloud deployment and test automation using a CI/CD solution such as Cloud Build or Concourse
  • Experience in deploying and managing cloud infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or similar
