Student Digital Content Assistant

Student Digital Content Assistant

UNSW is looking for a creative, social media–savvy student to help shape content
across social media channels for the Faculty of Medicine & Health.

If you’re the sort of person who instinctively spots trends before everyone
else, enjoys creating short-form content, and genuinely understands student
culture at UNSW, particularly in the health space, this role offers the chance
to turn that into meaningful paid experience.

Working within the UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement
(DSIEE), you’ll help showcase the Faculty’s world-class research, student
experiences, events and community through engaging, platform-native content.

As the Faculty’s Student Digital Content Assistant, you’ll work closely with the
Senior External Engagement Manager and News & Content Coordinator to support
day-to-day social media activity across Medicine & Health channels. From content
planning and creation, execution and editing, through to community engagement
and analytics, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping how the Faculty connects
with current and future students online.

No two days will look the same. One day you might be filming student content on
campus, the next you could be covering an event, editing video reels, tracking
social trends or helping bring a research story to life online.

We’re looking for someone who is creative, proactive, confident communicating
with different audiences, and excited by digital storytelling and social media.

This role will:

  • Assist in the creation, shooting, editing, and posting of video and image
content for Instagram Reels and TikTok, that showcases themes of student
experience, news and research, campus vibrancy and trending topics, featuring in
    videos/photos where necessary.
  • Contribute ideas for social media posts and videos and format content in line
with the UNSW Social Media Style Guide.
  • Contribute to video-based content with a strong, distinctive student voice.
Assist in monitoring performance of content, by observing changes and trends on
social media platforms and reporting these observations back to the News &
    Content Coordinator.
  • Assist in continually testing new methods of engaging with UNSW’s social
audience and help adjust the execution of content, learning from results.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours
and the UNSW Code of Conduct
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university
and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not
impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and
experience:

  • Existing UNSW student in their first or second year of undergraduate or post
graduate study. A marketing, communication or digital media–related degree is
    desirable, but not required.
  • Highly motivated and outgoing, with a passion for university life and the
    educational experience at UNSW.
  • Broad knowledge of UNSW including academic, extra-curricular activities,
support structures, as well as understanding of student concerns and
    cross-cultural issues
  • Ability to execute video and audio production using low-fi technology (eg. a
    recent mobile phone).
  • Ability to use a broad array of video and sound recording equipment desirable.
  • Ability to use simple TikTok and Instagram Reels (or similar platforms)
    in-platform content editing tools.
  • Ability to adapt UNSW news stories into accurate and engaging social media
content, including translating complex medical research into clear, concise
    copy.
  • Ability to maintain strong connections with student societies and groups and
stay across emerging stories, events and content opportunities within the
    student community.
  • Awareness of changes and trends on TikTok and Instagram Reels (or similar
platforms), and an understanding of in-platform features.
  • Good understanding of copywriting and presentation skills is desirable but not
    required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a
    range of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in
action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending
    relevant health and safety training

Special requirements:
• Candidates are required to share some recent work they’ve created or create a
30-second Instagram Reel on campus in the style of UNSW’s Instagram as part of
their application.

UNSW is committed to evolving a culture that embraces equity and supports a
diverse and inclusive community where everyone can participate fairly, in a safe
and respectful environment. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and
encourage applications from people of diverse gender, sexual orientation,
cultural and linguistic backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
background, people with disability and those with caring and family
responsibilities. UNSW provides workplace adjustments for people with
disability, and access to flexible work options for eligible staff.

The University reserves the right not to proceed with any appointment.
