The Role

For the reporter in the Horsham bureau, every day is different. You might be out on the road filming a TV story, reporting live from a crime scene, producing a national digital story or reading and writing radio bulletins for the Breakfast program. All this alongside the regular police, council and community rounds. With ABC Wimmera located in the heart of the Wimmera-Mallee, the Grampians National Park and the Silo Art Trail at your doorstep, there’s ample opportunity to enjoy an exceptional quality of life outside the office.

The Job

We are looking for a talented reporter to help our small, dedicated team to cover this area, to report on its diverse peoples, its cultures, businesses, lifestyles, quirks and customs; to tell the region’s unique stories to the state, the nation and the world. 

Working as part of the Mildura/ Horsham team, you will be responsible for creating news content for multiple platforms, engaging the diverse local and national audiences.

  • Present news bulletins, Q&As, interviews and packages across all platforms, including breaking stories.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan.
  • In collaboration with colleagues identify and develop local content that can be shared with other content teams in News and across the ABC on multiple platforms.

About You

You have experience in delivering breaking and original content for multiple platforms, with an understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local and regional audience.

You'll have:

  • Proficient editorial skills.
  • Sound time management and communication skills.
  • A proven ability to source and maintain contacts across the broader Australian community
