  • About the Role

    From mangos and bananas to mining and commercial fishing, this role will see you reporting on a diverse range of stories across Western Australia’s north west. You will be based in the coastal community of Carnarvon, which is often referred to as the “food bowl” of Western Australia. You will have not one, but TWO world heritage areas to explore – Shark Bay World Heritage area to the south and the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area to the north. You can spend your weekends enjoying world class fishing, boating and diving, or hiking through rugged natural landscapes.

    We are looking for a talented Reporter to help our small, dedicated team to cover this area, to report on its diverse peoples, its cultures, businesses, lifestyles, quirks and customs; to tell the region’s unique stories to the state, the nation and the world. You will work closely with your colleague in the Carnarvon bureau as well the rest of the ABC Pilbara team based in Karratha.

    Working as part of the Pilbara team, you will be responsible for creating news content for multiple platforms, engaging the diverse local and national audiences.

    This role will see you;

    • Presenting news bulletins, Q&As, interviews, packages and breaking news stories across all platforms, including social, digital and TV. 
    • Contributing to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences. 
    • Collaborating with colleagues, identifying and developing local content that can be shared with other content teams and across the ABC on multiple platforms.

    About You

    You're an experienced journalist with a strong focus on digital and multi-platform storytelling and in particular the issues that affect the interest of the diverse local audience.  You will have initiative, drive and be a strong team player.
