Department Overview Features & Strengths

Leveraging the market scale of "Rakuten Points," which has surpassed a cumulative issuance of 3 trillion yen, we are building the "Rakuten Ecosystem" through service collaborations with various Rakuten Group companies and the accelerating adoption of cashless payment services in physical stores. Our payment services are available at approximately 5 million online and offline locations, including supermarkets, convenience stores, and shopping malls nationwide, in addition to about 1 million transportation IC card-compatible locations, and the number of usable locations continues to expand. Product Development Division handles everything from planning system services related to payment, UI/UX planning and implementation, basic and detailed system design, coding, testing, and operation. As services expand, you will gain experience in planning, building, and operating highly scalable systems. Furthermore, by directly listening to customer feedback, you can contribute to service improvements. We aim to provide Rakuten Point-related services to physical stores, fostering a lively, communicative, and smiling society where customers, partners, communities, and society are mutually empowered through innovation.

Position Details

Rakuten is a service provider, and the products and services we develop only gain meaning when used by many users. At Rakuten, a project leader who creates such services, leading both business and engineering teams, is called a "Producer." In this role, you will be responsible for project management of development projects and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. You will also gain intensive experience in service requirements definition, service management, and service improvement, directly impacting users and services, characteristic of a service provider's development department. Specifically, the work involves services related to Rakuten Group's Rakuten Point Card (including mobile apps). You will be comprehensively involved in everything from planning, development, and maintenance of the Rakuten Point Card core system to user-facing iPhone/Android applications. With diverse backgrounds among team members in the same section, you will be stimulated, grow, and be able to proceed with work quickly. This field, as part of FinTech, is attracting global attention, allowing for not only service expansion but also the continuous introduction of new services.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in system development for open-source systems
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Curiosity and a challenging spirit towards new services and technologies
  • Ability to understand algorithms to a certain extent
  • Experience in creating documentation such as requirements definitions and designs for open-source systems

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in project management for development projects
  • IT experience in the upstream process for companies with Japanese business practices
  • Experience in development, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical systems
  • Knowledge of loyalty points/rewards programs
