Step into a pivotal role at the centre of government communications as our next Media Manager, where your expertise will shape how critical initiatives, programs and emerging issues are understood by the public and the media. Working within a fast-paced and highly visible environment, you will be the trusted advisor to Ministers, the Secretary and senior executives, leading the planning and delivery of strategic media activity that protects and enhances the department’s reputation.
You will lead a small team of senior media advisors, managing complex and often contentious issues and building strong, credible relationships with journalists and key stakeholders while delivering accurate, timely and impactful communications.
About You
You are a confident and highly capable media professional who thrives in high-pressure, fast-moving environments, bringing strong judgement, political awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities with ease.
A natural leader, you are experienced in coordinating projects, guiding team performance and fostering a culture of accountability and development among direct reports. You are comfortable exercising discretion, interpreting complex information and providing clear, actionable recommendations.
With a strong background in media relations and an understanding of emerging issues, you bring established networks and insight that enable you to deliver impactful media outcomes while supporting organisational priorities and maintaining a consistent, credible public presence.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, journalism, or related discipline and/or relevant extensive experience.
- Willingness and ability to be on call as required outside of normal working hours.
