About the opportunity

As the Manager, Unified Communications, you will provide both strategic and technical leadership for the University's enterprise communication, collaboration and learning space technologies. Leading a specialist team responsible for audio visual, video conferencing, telephony, teaching and learning spaces and associated real-time communication platforms, you will ensure these critical services remain reliable, secure, scalable and aligned to the University's evolving digital and educational needs.

This is a highly influential technical leadership role requiring deep subject matter expertise across Unified Communications technologies, space planning, capital projects and their integration within a complex enterprise ICT environment. As the University's recognised technical leader in this domain, you will provide authoritative advice and direction, drawing on your own experience in the design, implementation and operation of contemporary communication, collaboration and learning space technologies. You will work closely with senior technology leaders, architects, cybersecurity specialists, infrastructure teams, campus services and external partners, bringing both strategic insight and practical technical knowledge to complex challenges and technology decisions.

While leading and developing a specialist team, you will remain closely connected to the technical direction of the services you oversee, providing guidance, assurance and expert input across architecture, service design, operational support and technology lifecycle planning. Success in this role relies on the ability to establish credibility with technical peers across Networks, Infrastructure, Cyber Security and Digital Services while translating complex technology concepts into meaningful business outcomes.

Working closely with stakeholders across IT Services, Campus Services and the broader University, you will play a key role in shaping technology outcomes for major capital works, campus developments and space planning initiatives. From the earliest planning and design stages through to project delivery and operational handover, you will ensure technology requirements are embedded into the University's physical and digital infrastructure investments.

What we’re looking for:

• A relevant degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience in IT infrastructure, or security management.
• Proven experience leading Unified Communications and ICT infrastructure operations, projects, financial management, team performance and design standards within a large and complex organisational/educational environment.
• Deep knowledge of contemporary multi-platform Unified Communications technologies and intersection with space design (Architecture and system design, AV & Video Conferencing platforms, Control systems integration, Audio platform design, Telephony services and IoT devices and platforms)
• Proven knowledge the intersection between UC, and the broader ICT ecosystem including (Networks, server and cloud technologies, LAN/WAN, LoRaWAN, network segmentation, multicast, cloud connectivity, SIP, Firewall, QoS, Monitoring, Windows server, M365 and Virtualisation).
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and their application to device, network and management.
• Strong record of empowering and developing multidisciplinary technical teams, building a collaborative and growth-oriented culture that supports excellence in delivery.
• Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and lifecycle asset management. with strong project management capabilities to support the ICT delivery for capital works, campus infrastructure upgrades, and relocation or moves projects.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders, coupled with strong problem-solving skills and proven experience delivering high-quality ICT services and support within a large-scale managed computing environment.
• Experience with procurement and purchasing processes and policies, including documenting requirements, obtaining quotes, evaluating and managing vendors/contractors and ensuring compliance with organisational policies.

Qualifications and Licences

• A postgraduate degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
• Current Australian Drivers Licence

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 9 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $160,613 comprising base salary within the range of $130,242 to $137,276 plus 17% superannuation.
