Chief of Staff (News)

The Opportunity:

As Chief of Staff, you’ll be responsible for assigning stories and compiling the bulletin that reaches the audience of the Central West in New South Wales, together with journalists and camera operators working across all towns and cities in the region to produce to a high standard the market-leading 6pm news bulletin.

Based in Orange, NSW and reporting to the Director of Regional News, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Regional News Director in delivering top-quality editorial content and gathering Orange/Dubbo news bulletins for the region.
  • Leading story development and make fast decisions on breaking news coverage.
  • Coordinating crews and logistics, ensuring smooth field operations.
  • Ensuring our nightly news bulletin is delivered on time and to the highest editorial and production standards.
  • Supporting daily newsroom operations, including staff supervision and administration.

About You:

You thrive in a fast-moving news environment bringing energy, tenacity, and a results-driven attitude. You’re a natural problem-solver, and someone that can focus and act quickly under pressure. You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that drive collaborative relationships.

You will have:

  • Strong knowledge of the local Central West News environment.
  • Excellent news judgement and news gathering ability.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of television production and live broadcast.
  • An understanding of broadcast television writing (preferred but not essential).
  • Sound legal knowledge related to media work (preferred but not essential).
