Assistant Director, Media Capability Development Division

What the role is

The Media Capability Development Division conceptualises and implements strategies that ensures Singapore’s Media Industry remain competitive, able to respond to evolving media landscape, produce content that meets global audience preferences and grow in commercial viability and profitability. This can be achieved by uplifting the competencies of key production roles such as Creative Producers, Scriptwriters and Directors and through adoption of emerging technologies, such as Virtual Production and Generative AI. This role will support IMDA’s mission as the Architect of Singapore’s Digital Future.

What you will be working on

Key Responsibilities for Assistant Director (New Capabilities) Lead a team to design and deliver new capability development programmes for our media industry to produce commercially successful made-with-Singapore content. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise up to 4 officers to achieve programme outcomes.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments and assess how it benefits local media industry.
  • Engage industry stakeholders to gather relevant insights on trends and key capabilities central to the creative and commercial aspects of media projects.
  • Design and obtain approval for programme funding to build new capabilities, such as Virtual Production.
  • Manage programme implementation, review effectiveness, and make recommendations to refine programme design (hypothesis and approach) to achieve the intended programme outcomes.
  • Partner industry and educational institutions to ensure talent pipelines are equipped with capabilities that meets industry demand.
  • Overcome key challenges to the role – identify and assess new emerging technologies and its relevance to Singapore’s media industry (currently it is VP)

What we are looking for

At least 10 years of relevant working experience in education and project management roles, preferably in the media sector. Well-versed in managing stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. Agility is key to this role. A team lead who can work within loosely defined problem spaces to propose and implement solutions within narrow timeframes. Effective communication skills (writing and presentation) are crucial, including ability to explain complex concepts and emerging technology. Degree qualification preferably in Media, Tech, Business, Arts, and Communications.
