Role Title : Advisor, Media & Communications
Role Type: 12-month temporary opportunity
Clerk Grade: 7/8 Salary : $113,574 to $125,720 + super and leave loading
Date: 20 July 2026 – early August 2027
Location: Sydney CBD or Gosford , Hybrid flexible working arrangements are supported, with regular office presence as required.
About the role
This is a standalone media role that sits within a broader communications team and supports proactive communications and media activity across all of the State Insurance Regulatory Authority’s (SIRA) work.
The successful candidate will bring strong media and reputational management capability, sound judgement, and the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
While the role has a stronger focus on communications and proactive media than a traditional reactive media position, it also requires someone who can confidently manage media enquiries and support sensitive issues management. This is a great role for a confident advisor who enjoys working solo and as part of a team and has a genuine passion for media and communications and helping SIRA be a contemporary and trusted regulator.

Your day-to-day
- Identify and develop proactive communications and media opportunities that showcase key initiatives, programs and outcomes.
- Draft high-quality communication materials including media releases, story pitches, Q&As, briefing notes, holding lines, talking points, website copy, and other supporting content as required.
- Provide timely and accurate support for reactive media enquiries, issues management and holding lines when required.
- Manage media monitoring and look out for emerging issues, assess risks and opportunities, and contribute to practical communication and media strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels and collaborate across teams to deliver coordinated communication outcomes.
This role does not currently require weekend on call duties.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
Required skills:
- Experience in media, communications or public affairs, ideally in a government, public sector or similarly complex environment.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, accurate and engaging content.
- Demonstrated ability to identify proactive story opportunities and deliver high-quality communications products to a strict deadline.
- Sound judgment, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners including Ministerial Offices.
- Experience supporting reactive media responses and navigating sensitive or emerging issues is highly desirable.
Desired skills:
- Experience in government media, journalism or a communications role.
- Understand of the media landscape
- Experience identifying and delivering proactive media and communication opportunities.
- Confidence managing media enquiries and supporting sensitive or emerging issues independently.

Salary Grade 07/08, with the base salary for this role starting at base plus superannuation
