Job Description: About Rakuten & Our Business

Rakuten Mobile launched its full-scale service in April 2020 as the fourth MNO (Mobile Network Operator) in Japan—the first to be approved in 13 years—with the mission to provide high-quality mobile communication services at fair prices. We are growing rapidly, surpassing 8.5 million subscriptions as of February 2025. In January 2023, we launched full-scale services for corporate clients. As a core business driving the future growth of the Rakuten Group, we are making large-scale investments and drawing significant attention both domestically and internationally. We are currently working daily toward our goal of reaching 10 million subscriptions within this year.

Department Overview

Our department is responsible for maximizing Rakuten Mobile subscription numbers by analyzing local conditions (demographics, store locations, user characteristics, network quality, etc.). We play a diverse role in developing and executing area marketing strategies and managing individual stores to drive concrete actions. You will be expected to think outside the box, leveraging the various assets of the Rakuten Group to plan and execute initiatives for acquiring individual mobile subscriptions.

We are recruiting to strengthen our planning and sales capabilities to further accelerate the acquisition of individual mobile subscriptions for Rakuten Mobile.

Position Details

Depending on the organizational situation and your aptitude, you will be responsible for tasks such as:

  • Conducting analysis of market share, trends, and challenges for our company versus competitors by prefecture and municipality.
  • Driving marketing initiatives and project management for each area based on data analysis (e.g., Rakuten Mobile shop events, contract sessions at corporations/schools, billboard strategies, and comprehensive municipal partnerships).
  • Managing store KPIs and planning/executing improvement measures for store operations in your assigned area.
  • Promoting local marketing activities (e.g., newsletters, SNS, local media).
  • Strengthening ties with local organizations (local governments, chambers of commerce, Junior Chambers, hotel associations, tourism associations, foreign employment associations, etc.) and implementing booth setups at local government offices, events, and international schools.

Work Environment

- Department size: Approx. 60 members.
- A diverse team of employees with experience from various industries, not limited to IT and telecommunications.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Experience in one of the following:
    • B2B or B2C sales experience.
    • Experience in promotions aimed at B2C customer acquisition.
    • Experience in store management.
  • Strong logical thinking skills, with the ability to formulate hypotheses regarding current issues/solutions and put them into action.
  • Basic PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with clients.
  • A strong drive to achieve goals and the ability to think and act autonomously.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license (not mandatory).
