Senior Client Director – Social

The Role

As Senior Client Director – Social, you will confidently lead, manage and grow a portfolio of clients, driving world-class work and contributing to the agency’s performance by successfully managing budgets and time effectively. You respectfully mentor and train a team of people at various levels, inspiring them to be the best they can be.

Key Responsibilities include:

Client & Account Management

You are each client’s trusted strategic counsel, providing considered advice and smart solutions that impact their business. You drive efficient, effective and results-driven accounts and outcomes.

  • Has a strong understanding of the client and their industry, market insights, stakeholder challenges and business opportunities
  • Builds a strong and trusted bond with the senior members of each client team, understanding their overarching business objectives, KPIs, processes and organisational structure
  • Working in partnership with the strategy team, you assist in delivering sound strategy on each client, interpreting the brief and budget to create a considered plan that can be executed on-time and on budget
  • Sets the vision for what success looks like and ensures this aligns with client expectations
  • Sets priorities across the team, ensuring each member is clear on their responsibilities and deadlines
  • Oversees the smooth and efficient running of each client in the portfolio, identifying areas where time can be saved, issues are occurring, ways to solve them and how to do things better
  • Identifies issues early and quickly problem solves
  • Assesses budgets and burn-through regularly in order to manage capacity, margin, delivering accounts within the agency’s financial targets
  • Articulates complex concepts simply and drives influence while demonstrating emotional
  • intelligence (knowing when to push and when to pull back)
  • Mentors and works with staff, particularly Client Director level and below, to build up their skill levels
  • Produces top quality briefing documents for suppliers and collaborative Bastion Agency businesses that require few clarifications and result in exceptional delivery
  • Sets compelling yet realistic KPIs and ensures the team delivers on them
  • Manages performance issues swiftly with internal team members as well as external suppliers and agency partners

Social Media

  • Elevates all social materials to an expert level, contributing to innovation and best practice in the agency
  • Escalation point for any client or project issues, handling them with a cool head, providing initial strategic advice and identifying where further information or consultation is required
  • Responsible for executing social strategy along with overseeing the production of high quality content calendars and campaign plans by the team
  • Experience in developing and/or implementing efficient and effective paid social media campaigns and plans, regardless of size of media buy
  • Reviews client results and reporting each month to identify what can be improved and what should be leveraged for the future as actionable insights
  • Enhances content, creative ideas and performance reports with no mistakes or errors and provides a strategic lens
  • Proofs and provides feedback on junior team members’ written work, assessing relevance, formatting, potential negativity or issues, messaging, flow, spelling, grammar, etc.
  • Changes strategy when plans and the external environment changes with great agility and is solutions-focused
  • Able to troubleshoot platforms and support managers in making platform tool decisions
  • Go-to for team members for any social processes and sounding board to develop new processes
  • Leads the development of accurate and detailed response matrix for community management, considering the overarching comms framework, legal requirements, brand messaging, media and other stakeholders in preparation and involvement

Business Development

  • Contributes to the financial success of the agency through upsell and cross-sell, client retention as well as participating in new business opportunities
  • Has developed and maintains a strong network, leveraging relationships to help Bastion Agency grow its relationships in the Brisbane market
  • Collaborates with Bastion Agency teams as part of new business pitches, writing proposals, creating presentations and developing social ideas for new client campaigns
  • Proactively provides ideas on where we could expand, help new clients or trial new services
  • Regularly considers how we can better service each client, identifying key issues and opportunities internally within the account team and within the client’s business – always being armed with solutions
  • Is commercially minded and able to plan, budget and develop a campaign
  • Ensures financial processes are strictly adhered to

Team management and leadership

  • Manages a highly productive and effective team to deliver great work
  • Mentors and works with team to build their skill levels and identify areas for training and assistance
  • Contributes to the operations of the agency by identifying better efficiencies and people needs
  • Leads by example, displaying a mature attitude when under pressure and a collaborative approach, champions others supportively
  • Accurately forecasts capacity each month to manage the team’s utilisation well, proposing creative and/or practical solutions to solve capacity issues if and when they occur


  • Significant experience working in social media,underpinned by a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or PR.
  • Has an expert understanding of social media platforms, best practice methods, paid advertising, product innovation, how they function and how best to execute on them
  • Has a sound understanding of the broader communications mix to effectively integrate disciplines cohesively
  • Is a highly strategic thinker and creative with socially-sound ideas
  • Possesses strong project management, organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to present confidently and take clients on a journey
  • Collaborative by nature, ensuring both outputs and outcomes are of quality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive can-do attitude
  • Highly deadline oriented and able to self-manage and set priorities effectively
  • You have an ability to work quickly and can see ideas from ideation to delivery
